Two Wiregrass men have been identified as the shooter and the victim after a deadly confrontation in the Florida Panhandle Saturday night.

The Calhoun County Sheriff's Office says 46-year-old Derrick Thompson of Dothan opened fire during an altercation at the Powerhouse Drag Strip.

Twenty-three-year-old Kendall Kirkland of Newville was critically wounded and later died.

Thompson was killed at the scene during a shootout with law enforcement that wounded a deputy in the leg.

Several people in the crowd were injured and treated and released at local medical facilities.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the officer-involved shooting.
