DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) A confection contest. The National Peanut Festival Fairground’s hosted its annual Cake Decorating Competition Thursday morning at 9 a.m.
The contest has been held over 10 years. Usually 16 to 20 participants take part in hopes of winning cash, prizes and best of show. There are two divisions, youth and adult, and up to 3 categories, special occasion, theme, and wedding. Cakes are judged on decoration, presentation, and originality.
“I recently did a wedding cake for my cousin’s wedding and so I was like I’ll just make another one for the peanut festival,” said Erin Smith, a contestant who entered her cake in the “adult wedding category.” She added, “I love it, it’s just something I really really enjoy and I was like why not compete?”
Cakes must be either a 12 inch round, or 12 by 12 square. There is also a height limit of 25 inches.
