DOTHAN, AL. (WTVY) - The Tuesday after Thanksgiving is designated as a national day of giving back to the community, also called Giving Tuesday,
The Wiregrass United Way spent Tuesday hosting its annual Giving Tuesday Telethon.
Local volunteers were calling businesses all over the Wiregrass to receive their pledges for the year.
Their goal was $57,400, but they shattered it with almost $130,000 in donations which is more than double their goal.
"What that money does is: We have 42 nonprofit partnering agencies who are doing amazing work all over the Wiregrass. The money they get from the Wiregrass United Way helps them keep their doors open, continue to operate, and do the amazing services they do all over the Wiregrass," said United Way Area Manager Taylor Wheeler.
The volunteers were available all day to collect donations.
