OZARK, Ala. (WTVY) - The Ozark Fire Department is in the process of hiring a new Fire Chief by the beginning of the year.
The current Chief, Steve Sketo, is set to retire at the end of the month.
Applications became available on November 8th and closed on November 22nd; resulting in only seven applications received.
Out of the seven, only two were interviewed this past Monday by the city council.
Mayor Bob Bunting says, “Due to withdrawing and some of them didn’t meet the qualifications it left us with two. We were very disappointed, we thought we could get twenty to twenty-five...but that didn’t happen."
The next City Council Meeting will be December 18th where they will decide whether to choose one of the two applicants, or open the application process back up for another two weeks.
