Whitney Devane, former National Peanut Festival Queen, has passed

Former National Peanut Festival Queen Whitney Devane passed away Wednesday night at a Birmingham hospital. Family friends confirmed her death to WTVY.

She became sick last weekend and was rushed to University of Alabama-Birmingham Hospital with swelling of the brain.

Whitney served as Festival Queen from 2012 to 2013. She graduated from Troy University and later worked in the banking industry.

She survived by her parents, Stan and Deborah Devane, both retired Dothan Police officers, brother, sister, her fiance, his daughter, a brother, Reed, and sister, Donna.

Funeral services will be announced.

Whitney Devane was 25.
