Surf City, N.C. (NBC News Channel) -- People fishing on a North Carolina beach caught a waterspout on camera.
A storm on Surf City beach spawned a waterspout about 35 miles north of Wilmington.
The National Weather Service confirmed the waterspout came ashore as a tornado with winds up to 70 miles per hour.
The tornado moved over a house on the beach and caused roof damage to three other homes.
Surf City police said the waterspout also caused minor damage to personal property was reported.
It tossed patio furniture and damaged wooden fences.
