WALTON COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Walton County is doing its best to ensure year-round beach safety.
The Board of County Commissioners voted on having lifeguards on staff for year-round coverage.
Now the new contract will include keeping five additional lifeguards on duty November through February.
Visit South Walton officials say this is necessary because visitation is increasing in the shoulder season.
Last year's contract for lifeguard services was around $900,000 and next year's will be about $1.6 million, which will include some new equipment purchases, but it will decrease for the third year.
