WTVY & McDonald's name new Student of the Month
A new student of the month was named Tuesday morning, courtesy of WTVY and McDonald’s.
Ivey Lawson is a senior at Geneva High School where teachers and staff say he’s a model student and athlete.
He plays varsity basketball and baseball and is part of the Panther Sports Network, the school’s student-run broadcast station.
Teachers at Geneva High nominated Ivey for this award, and while he was surprised to be nominated, he said he’s happy his work ethic hasn’t gone unnoticed.
“It means a lot,” said Lawson. “I know I’ve put in a pretty good amount of effort in the classroom, and it means a lot that they recognize that. I’m studying every night, making sure that I’m keeping pace in the classroom, making sure I still have straight As and everything like that, and just really putting in a lot of hard work and time to my classes, grades work, etc.”
Ivey injected a bit of humor about the award, warning future recipients that if their principal or vice-principal suggests dressing up for the day; just know you’re in for a treat.
He also advised students to work hard, be humble and always make your teachers proud.
