Volunteers spend Thanksgiving giving back to those in need

DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY)- Thanksgiving is a holiday of tradition, and some residents' traditions are to put the giving in Thanksgiving. and for Hejal Patel, this has become a family event.

Patel says, "It's tradition and I think that it makes us all thankful for what we have. There are a lot of folks out here in the community that are not going to get a good meal today, and so seven hundred people are going to get a good meal today".

Just down the road a family of volunteers at the Love In Action Ministries is enjoying spreading their good fortune onto others.

While this is their first Thanksgiving volunteering, they don't believe it will be their last.

Amanda Knight stated "Hopefully it'll become a tradition now. We are very blessed in our community and in our home and we just felt like it was very important to come out and give back and maybe spread those blessing to those who are less fortunate".

The Knights are not the only ones who are spending their first Thanksgiving volunteering this year; Russell Brooks and his wife spent their morning welcoming people into Love In Action Ministries and he says "If you have an opportunity to do Thanksgiving instead of have Thanksgiving I would highly recommend taking advantage of the many opportunities that are throughout the area to help out".

With this belief, thousands will now have access to a hot meal on Thanksgiving, all thanks to those who woke up to 'do' this Thanksgiving.
