DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) - A former Miss National Peanut Festival is in very serious condition at a Birmingham hospital.

Family and friends gathered at the Angel of Hope statue in Dothan for a vigil for the former queen.

The 2012 Miss Peanut Festival is currently suffering from brain swelling.

While most of the family is in Birmingham with Whitney, people here in Dothan wanted to show their support by hosting this vigil.

The Angel of Hope statue is there to provide some relief and hope for parents, which are two things the group at the vigil wanted to provide for the family.

"It's one of the great things about Dothan,” said Bill Dorminy, whose son went to school with Whitney. “I just imagine that if this were my daughter, I'd want people coming out and praying over her."

Devane is still in very serious condition, and Whitney’s parents are asking everyone to pray for their daughter.
