Scammers pose as United Way representatives

DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) -- Be on the lookout for scammers posing as United Way representatives on social media.

The scammers have been working all over the country.

At least one person in Alabama was asked for personal information like a social security number and Facebook login.

"People need to be very careful. We're not going to ever solicit that information from them. If they sign a pledge form we need to have their name and their address, but we're not going to ask them for other personal information,” says Walter Hill the executive director of United Way.

If you are or have been contacted by these scammers you should call the police.
