Four years ago, Elba, Alabama was selected as a Main Street designated community and a lot has changed between then and now.

"You’ll just be amazed at the difference and I think all of this is because of the energy of Main Street," says Sandy Bynum the Elba Main Street Director.

Since then, the city has had 56 jobs created and 19 relocating businesses.

When Elba first joined, they received special attention from the program that they say the new ones can also expect.

“For the first three years, they have a program of work that they do for each community. The state comes to your community works with you on branding, marketing, organization, design, and economic development,” Bynum added.

According to the program's state coordinator, work will begin immediately in the newly added communities.

Business owners in Enterprise believe it will help the growing city.

"We think it’s important for us downtown because we are truly growing. Enterprise is boom downtown. There are no vacant buildings. Everyone is trying to get down here," says Ken Emerson the owner of Cam’s Cotton in Enterprise.

Others hope it means more business staying in the city,

"We also hope it helps us keep our community here in enterprise and our dollars here in Enterprise rather than Dothan and other surrounding cities. We'd like to keep all our money customers here locally," says Dara Elliot the owner of Black Cat Bakery in Enterprise.

Being selected was not simple.

"It was a very lengthy process. We had a great group of creative people that got together and did a lot of hard work to make it happen," says Regina Lacey the president of the Downtown Enterprise Business Association.

Enterprise joins 25 other Alabama cities as a Main Street Alabama designated community.

The Main Street Alabama program will continue to add new communities annually.
