CHIPLEY, FL (WTVY) Holding a very large check, representatives of the Chipley, Florida High School ‘Tiger 100’ athletic booster organization put their money where their mouth is on Thursday, March 10.
Tiger 100 President Chris Ellis was accompanied by Tiger 100 members Vickie Williams and Mike Suggs for the presentation, held with little fanfare, but with what will be a huge impact to the program.
The check was gratefully accepted by Chipley High School Principal Kyle Newsom, Athletic Director Blake Wilson and Basketball Coach Mike Gates.
Blake Wilson, recently accepting the position of Athletic Director and Head Football Coach, appeared in an interview with local radio station FPTC, a service of Florida Panhandle Technical College.
‘Although wins and losses are counted in our programs, what is of prime importance to us is the quality of young adults we are helping to enter the world’, said Wilson, ‘and in that respect we are very successful right here in Chipley, Florida’.
‘We have had some very successful seasons in many of our athletic programs over the past years’, continued Wilson, ‘and we owe in large part our success to the support we get from the families of the students, and the community at large, including the Tiger 100 organization’.
The organization conducts fundraising throughout the year, including a series of tailgate parties, held each home football game in Chipley, and all meals are donated each respective week by a local organization or business.
‘We have great community partners, and we make ourselves available when needed, to assist in any way we are able’, says Chris Ellis. ‘Our group has done everything from raising funds to physically installing the handrails for the bleachers of Philip Rountree Stadium, and we feel both are equally important’.
Recently the Tiger 100 Club agreed to assist Florida Panhandle Technical College to refurbish the press box at Philip Rountree Stadium to allow live play-by-play broadcast of the upcoming season of home football games.
