One of the fastest growing sports in the world is disc golf. There are a handful of courses around the Wiregrass and there is about to be another in Taylor.
"If you can throw a Frisbee, then you can come out and you can play disc golf,” said Don Cropenbaker, a co-founder of the Southeast Alabama Disc Golf Association.
The sport’s popularity is soaring; it's golf with a mid-air twist.
"It’s a great sport for all ages, men, women, and children.”
Cropenbaker has watch disc golf courses pop up around the area. There a few around Dothan including the 18 hole course at Eastgate Park.
The small city of Taylor will soon have its own disc golf course. It is a family friendly sport that anyone can play.
"It’s a game where you challenge yourself individually; it's really you against the course."
The course is expected to be completed by the end of summer.
If you are interested in playing the sport, you can like their Facebook page “Circle City Slingers” for updates and how to get involved.
Fanatix in Dothan also sells beginner disc sets at a reasonable price if you are interested in trying out the new sport!
