A well-known store in Geneva County went up in flames.

Hilltop Grocery in Chancellor caught fire around 4:30am, the store was closed at the time.

Investigators think it started in the kitchen. It took two hours to get everything under control and multiple agencies were called into help, primarily because of the heat.

Geneva County Sheriff, Tony Helms said it's important to have emergency devices and alarms inside the buildings.

"A lot of the alarm companies now, most of the standard alarm companies include fire protection and that's very very important because the quicker the fire department can get there and respond the better the chance they have to put it out," Geneva County Sheriff, Tony Helms said.

Coffee Springs and the state fire marshals are still investigating the cause of this fire.

Hilltop Grocery has served the area for decades, a local spot for area farmers to start their day.
