Dothan police recovered a skimming device Tuesday at a gas station on West Main Street.
A gas station employee at the Marathon Station in the 3300 block of West Main noticed the device. A seal on the gas tank had been tampered with according to police.
It's believed the device was placed on the pump late Monday.
Police offered a few tips to avoid credit card fraud due to skimmers:
1. Take a close look at the pump: Avoid pumps that have had the seal cut, removed, or appears to be tampered with. If you believe the seal has been tampered with, notify the gas station attendant immediately.
2. Pay inside, instead of at the pump
3. Check your credit card statements and sign up for fraud alerts
If you believe that you may be the victim of credit card fraud, contact your credit card company immediately. You should also make a report with your local law enforcement agency.
