EUFAULA, Ala. (WTVY) -- It is a devastating scene in Barbour County after the sun shed a dim light on the damages left behind, less than 24 hours after a deadly storm.
Throughout Eufaula, there is debris everywhere, property destroyed and power outages, but no one was killed.
Eufaula Fire Chief Greg Holmes says two of his firefighters were hunkered in a bathtub as the tornado passed over.
Thankfully, they survived with no injuries, but that wasn't the case for the people in Lee County, where 23 people were killed, including 3 children.
"Our thoughts and prayers go out to Lee County and everybody affected. They got hit much harder than we did, but we will rebuild and continue working," said Chief Holmes.
Eufala's Mayor Jack Tibbs estimates the damages to be $100,000.
