DOTHAN, Al. (WTVY) - Christmas came early for more than 1,000 people around the Wiregrass.

Monday was distribution day for the Salvation Army's Angel Tree program.
Nearly 50 volunteers were busy getting everything sorted.
The agency was able to provide toys for more than 1,000 children.
The Salvation Army also gave away 950-food boxes to families in need.

Earl Kelley who is in his 6th year of volunteering says:
"There are so many families out there that children won't have bicycles or toys and we're wanting to you know give them a good Christmas so it's just a blessing to be out here and help and we get as much reward out of it as the people who get all of this."

Jase Dukes who is in his 2nd year of volunteering says:
"I like helping people and I like giving presents to kids who don't have enough money to do it and Christmas is a time of giving so."

Of the 950 food boxes given away today, 300 will go to angel tree families.
The remainder will go to senior centers in Houston, Geneva, and Henry counties.
