SOUPer Bowl helping seniors in the Wiregrass

DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) -- The Souper Bowl is here but we're not talking about football.

The Wiregrass Area Food Bank is collecting cans of soup for seniors for their brown bag program.

There is no better way to fight the chill of winter than with the easy to prepare meal.

There will be soup drives throughout the month of January in the Wiregrass but if you're unsure of where to donate - you can always drop them off at the Wiregrass Area Food Bank.

Their ultimate goal - to raise 5 cans of soup per senior for 3 months.

"We don't want our seniors to have to choose between whether to eat nutritious foods or to heat their home or to have to buy life sustaining medications. We want to take this part of there stress away and hopefully help them with some nutritious food so that they can just think about the other things that they need," Julie Gonzalez, assistant director for Wiregrass Area Food Bank said.

On February 7th there will be another Souper Bowl drive at the southside Walmart from 10am to 6pm.
