SAMC holds balloon release for Heart Health Awareness Month

DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) - February is Heart Health Awareness Month

Dozens of red balloons filled the skies above Southeast Alabama Medical Center Thursday afternoon.

The biodegradable balloons were released in honor of those who have or have had heart disease.

Two survivor's shared their stories and gave advice on ways to prevent heart disease.

"I think the first and most important thing to know would be to know the risk factors of heart disease. for heart attacks and stroke. Also to know your family history and to know the ones that are particular for you.. Also know the steps to take once you have the onset of the problem.. so once you have the attack or start having a stroke.. what to do next."
-- Tonya Money, Heart Attack Survivor

In addition, SAMC is giving newborns born in February red hats after birth, instead of pink or blue.
