Enrollment is open for Southeast Alabama Medical Center's, (SAMC) diabetes prevention program ."Prevent Type 2" is a yearlong class teaching adults how to avoid type 2 diabetes.

The support group style sessions will discuss healthy eating habits, exercise routines, and weight and stress management. The only requirement is that you do "not" have type 1 or type 2 diabetes. Type 2 diabetes can lead to stroke, heart attack, blindness, kidney disease and amputation.

"There are over 30-million adults in the united states diagnosed with type 2 diabetes,” said Molly Hand, SAMC Registered Dietician. “There's about 86,000,000 more with pre-diabetes. We know that someone with pre-diabetes is more likely to develop diabetes in the next 5 to 15 years, so we can only imagine how big that diabetes number going to grow."

The program will start April 3rd, 2018. The classes are will be held Tuesdays from 9 to 10 a.m. The cost is 20 dollars. To sign up and for more information call 334-793-8854 or email
