Revised Dress Code for Dothan City Schools

DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) - Some students will have more options when they get dressed for school this Fall.

Dothan City Schools released its revised dress code on Facebook this week.

A lot of it is pretty familiar... All students from kindergarten to seniors will be required to wear solid shirts with collars.... With a few exceptions... Like a school t-shirt.

Kids in elementary school must wear tennis shoes... While middle and high schoolers can wear sandals.
But the big change is for pants.

Students in 9th through 12th grades will now be allowed to wear jeans... In addition to khaki, black or navy blue pants or shorts.

But they can't have any cuts, holes, or rips.
A couple of students weighed in on the decision.

Shimaya Russaw , a sophomore at Dothan High School, said, "I feel that to be able to wear jeans then we should be able to wear any kind of shirt we want because honestly, school shirts and jeans don’t look right together. I feel like we should just be able to wear whatever we want to, and express ourselves from how we dress as long as it’s not inappropriate."

If you want a chance to have your opinion heard, The Dothan City School Board will be holding a town hall meeting later this month.

It's on June 28th at the Dothan High School auditorium starting at 5:30PM
