HEADLAND, Ala. (WTVY) -- Tuesday Henry County Commission said yes to their 2020 Transportation Plan. The plan includes projects that will be funded from Alabama’s gas tax increase that begins September 1st.
Phase 1 of the project is the re-surfacing of County Road 55. The project will start at Alabama 134 and extend north to Henry County Road 56.
"We have a large majority of our roads that are in desperate need of repair and there's not enough funding to do the resurfacing that is needed. County Road 55 has been at the top of our priority list for many years," said Chris Champion, Henry County Engineer.
The total estimated cost is more than $600,000. In 2021, they will complete phase 2 of County Road 55, extending Alabama 134 south to the Houston County line.
