Police believe truck driver who went berserk may have used drugs
Police theorize a frenzied truck driver had been using cocaine before he died during a confrontation with an officer. Chief Steve Parrish identified that driver as Terrell Osborne of Mississippi.
The first indication Osborne had an issue came late Sunday afternoon when police received a call that he was running wildly around Popeye's Chicken parking lot on Ross Clark Circle, Parrish said.
A few minutes later he was spotted in another nearby parking lot, where police later found his truck.
Parrish said Osborne then crossed South Oates Street into the parking lot of the Flying J Travel Plaza, still acting in a berserk-type manner. An officer confronted Osborne who became combative, then collapsed.
Efforts to resuscitate him failed and Osborne was pronounced dead after being rushed to a local hospital.
Parrish said several bags found in Osborn's truck had white powder residue that tests revealed is cocaine. D
Dothan police plan to turn the investigation into Osborne's death over to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, routine policy for these type cases.
