Parole denied for convicted Dothan murderer

Montgomery (WTVY)-- A Dothan man serving a 99 year sentence for murder will remain in prison. The Alabama Parole Board refused Wednesday to release Lameco Turner.

Accused killer Lameco Turner is led to a Houston County courtroom for trial in this August 28, 2018 photo.

He is one of three men convicted in the death of Prakash Shah, shot at a Dothan convenience store in 2004.

After his first conviction, an appeals court ordered a new trial for Turner; the man police pulled the trigger.

In 2018, another jury found him guilty of felony murder and he received the 99-year sentence.

“I am delighted that the parole board decided justice is best served by keeping Mr. Turner in prison,” Houston County District Attorney Pat Jones said. He traveled to Montgomery to argue against release.

It will be five years before Turner, who has been jailed over 15 years, will be eligible for another parole hearing.

The other two men convicted in Shah’s death, one Turner’s brother, are serving long prison terms.
