Ozark woman claims $5.3 million from Florida Lotto

OZARK, Ala. (WTVY) - People buy lottery tickets from Fortune Liquors in Campbellton every day with hopes of striking it rich. Though chances may be slim... for a Wiregrass woman it was her lucky day.

57-year-old Cassandra Holmes of Ozark won $8 million in last week's drawing of the Florida Lotto.

She claimed the winnings from her quick pick ticket on Monday.
Sales Associate Earlene Welton was there to see it, and she says Cassandra was in pure disbelief.

"And she said.. um.. What does this mean? What did I win? I'm a jackpot prize winner.. and so when Sheila looked at it and she dropped it and a claim form came out, she's like what were those numbers? Is that a lotto ticket?!"

And that's exactly what it was.

Cassandra Holmes is now a millionaire! She chose to receive her prize in a lump sum of $5.3 million and 13 cents.

And the winnings don't stop there.

In addition to the Holmes jackpot prize, the Fortune Liquors store owners will receive a bonus commission of $50,000 for selling the ticket.
