OZARK, Ala. (WTVY) -- It was a big night for the city of Ozark.

The opening ceremonies are took place for the AAU National Championship
.
Teams from as far away as Orlando are competing for the next week at Historic Eagle Stadium.

Local businesses are excited because of the economic boost and it is at the perfect time.

"21 games over the next six days played in Ozark, so you're looking at that many thousands of people in town for nothing more than to watch baseball," said Director of Ozark Leisure Services Steve Sherrill.

There are 14 teams competing in the AAU National Championship over the course of the next seven days.

That means additional revenue for businesses around the city of Ozark.

"The teams come to this. Their expenses are on them. Motel, food, whatever they buy. You bring an extra thousand people into town for five days in a row. Well you're gonna have a boost in your economic impact," said Sherrill.

One of the biggest benefactors is the local restaurants.

"It's news business you know. New faces create new revenue not just for me, but for all the other businesses around here. Anytime our hotels fill up, it creates traffic," said Owner of Our Place Burgers Tyler Wright.

It comes at a time of year when they can really use it.

"Especially in the summer time. You know a lot of people are on vacation, so all the new business we can get from the travelers or the ball tournaments are always great. I mean it's a plus" said Wright.
