Ozark hosts "Christmas in July"
Ozark is bringing Christmas to July- but with a twist.
The Elf on the Shelf is a Christmas tradition where the elf sits on a table or another part of a family's home to observe the children's behavior during the holiday season and the City of Ozark is putting their own spin on this tradition this summer season.
Rosmarie Williamson, director at the Ozark Area Chamber of Commerce, says "Oz the Elf is a spin-off obviously of the elf on the shelf."
"Oz the Elf" is currently making his way around the Ozark business community.
Williamson says the elf "comes in to town and he goes to visit various businesses and you have to find out where he is that day by visiting our Facebook page or Ozark Leisure Services' Facebook page."
The Ozark Area Chamber of Commerce is issuing free stamp cards to keep track of tracking down Oz.
"You go in to the business and you find him and you get a stamp on your stamp card and then if you purchase something, you get two stamps," says Williamson.
Stamps collected will qualify those into an entry for a grand prize at the end of the month.
"You turn them in and there will be a drawing for a pre-paid visa card," says Williamson.
Oz was hanging out at Prime Time Clock on Thursday.
Pawel Antoniak, owner of Prime Time Clock, says "The Chamber of Commerce is a big champion of bringing business to Ozark, Alabama and it's one of their publicity...we love it."
The Ozark Area Chamber of Commerce is promoting “Christmas in July” to encourage people to shop locally.
"It's just a good way to get people out and into the businesses reminding them to shop Ozark and it's a lot of fun," says Williamson.
Stamp card drop off will be between July 31, 2018 and August 2, 2018 at The Ozark Area Chamber of Commerce. Chamber officials say absolutely no cards will be accepted after 4:00 pm on August 2nd.
Drawing for the grand prize will be held on August 3, 2018 on Facebook live.
