Ozark Police release details in officer shooting

An Ozark police officer has been shot and the person responsible is dead.

Ozark Police say the officer was responding to a call in the 100 block of Briar Hill Court at around 9:50 pm Thursday night.

They say the officer confronted a man walking on the road carrying a gun. The man fired on the officer and other responding Ozark Police. The officers returned fire and killing the man with the gun.

The injured officer was transported to Southeast Health, where he remains in critical condition.

Ozark Police Chief Marlos Walker has requested the ALEA State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) conduct an independent investigation into the shooting.


The officer was taken by ambulance to a Southeast Health by police escort a short time ago.

It's unclear what led to the shooting at this time.


The shooting took place on Briarhill Court near downtown Ozark.

The officer is currently at Southeast Health. He suffered multiple gunshot wounds.His condition at this time is unknown.

Numerous agencies are assisting in this investigation including the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, Alabama Bureau of Investigation and the Dale County Sheriff's Office.
