Ozark city students are back in the classroom and they're starting the year with another school resource officer.

A new school year means new possibilities but this year, more than ever, safety is what’s being talked about most.

Last year they had one officer for 4 schools but this year its two officers.

Superintendent Dr. Rick McInturf says, "As the school year winded down last year and we had the Parkland tragedy, it raised the conscience level of school administrators all over the country."

17 people were gunned down at Marjory Stoneman Douglas high school in Parkland Florida.

McInturf says, "The Parkland kids were so good at getting their message out there and raising awareness."

Corporal Zenneth Glenn is assigned to two of Ozarks four schools.

"Having two this year is a great advantage. For the students, it starts with trust. Getting to know the children and letting them know we are there for them. We are there to help guide."

And Dr. McInturf says they have updated things like cameras and installed bulletproof windows in hopes of keeping something bad from ever happening.
