Northview’s Wen Zhang Medals at the AHSAA State Championship Meet

Dothan, AL (WTVY) Wen Zhang, standout Northview Cougar swimmer, had a very successful effort in the AHSAA Swimming and Diving State Championship Meet in Auburn December 12th where 8 state records fell. Wen took silver in the Boys 50 Freestyle and Boys 100 Freestyle. Zhang’s efforts helped the Northview Boys team earn an 8th place finish in the Class 6 A and 7 A category.

Zhang, a sophomore, also anchored the Cougars’ 200 Freestyle relay with teammates Fuller McMillan, Blake Pynes and Han Zhang which placed 6th in the state. The Cougar Boys 400 yard freestyle relay team, Wen, his brother Han, McMillan and Sam Conner took 10th in the state in that event.

The Cougar Girls finished 25th at the state championships. Morgan Bull led the girls efforts, finishing 14th in the girls 100 yard butterfly. McKenzie Dalton, Eden McMillan and Caroline Pynes rounded out the girl’s team.

Cougar swimming is in its 4th year and has competed in the state championships each of those 4 years. The swimmers get their technical training as members of the Dothan Leisure Services’ Dothan Dolphins under long-time head coach, Coach John or as part of Shane Tatum’s Unified Troy Swim Team.
