New mayor and council member for Chipley

CHIPLEY, FL -- (WTVY) Ward Two Council Member John Sasser was sworn in as mayor on October 10th.

"I think that we're going to be able to do some good things for the City of Chipley and hopefully move ahead and get things accomplished," Sasser said.

Sasser has served on the Council for three years.

"I think I'll be able to represent the city more completely, shall we say, than I have in the past," Sasser said.

Chipley has just made history with the election of the city's first female African American council member.

"Paving the way? Perhaps there's many that have paved the way, regardless of the color," Ward Three Council Member Tracy Andrews said. "It's just an honor for me to be a part of this new wave."

Andrews has served Chipley in many volunteer positions, but this is her first time as an official member of local government.

"I enjoy working in the community," Andrews said. "I'm engaged and I like to see change. I like to be a part of it as well."

Sasser and Andrews said they look forward to working with the other council members to make Chipley an even better place to live and work.

A special meeting will be held at Chipley's City Hall on Thursday at 6:00 p.m. They'll discuss a water well issue among other topics.
