National 211 Day

DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) - Every penny counts and goes a long way for Wiregrass 211.

The Marine Corps League Detachment 752 gave the organization a $211.18 check on Wednesday. The amount increases by 1 cent each year to coincide with National 211 Day.

211 helps connect members of the community with health and social services.

"You can't pay your electric bill, you don't have food on the table, need clothing for your children, need a place to stay, where do you go? You can call 211 24 hours a day 7 days a week,” said Mike Watson with the Marine Corps League. “People don't realize 211 is here. I talk to a lot of different people who say they don’t know what it is."

2-1-1 director David Duke says the agency had been busier the past four months than in its 10 years of operation.
