ELBA (WTVY)- Twenty two years ago a mother in Elba lost her son. Her new year’s wish is to reconnect with some of the six people who got his organs.
His mother Melanie says “I have an angel in heaven and I call him Adam”.
Back in December, 1995 Melanie Bledsoe lost her son Adam, he was just 12 years old.
She was forced to make a tough decision that would impact six other lives.
She decided to donate his organs and give other children another chance at life.
“When you know that your child is basically gone to heaven the best thing you can try to do is try to help others.”
She donated his heart, corneas, kidneys and liver. Melanie knows one boy who was able to graduate high school with Adam’s heart.
Although the boy that received his heart passed away he was able to live out the rest of his high school days.
“He wanted to be able to play sports because he loved sports. I believe he said around the age of eight he got to where he couldn’t be physically active and through a letter from him and his mom we know that he did actually graduate from high school and he was able to play basketball and run track so we know that gave him 2 extra years of life. “
Now, she is desperately trying to find the other 4 people that got Adam's organs and needs the community's help.
“If any one received a cornea or a kidney around that date maybe this will ring a bell and they can get in touch with the Alabama Organ Donor Center or the Alabama Eye Bank and we can exchange addresses and hopefully reconnect.
Although Adam lives on in other places, he will always hold a special place in Melanie’s heart and their home through their memory tree.
More than anything Melanie and Ashley his sister want to meet the organ recipients face to face.
