DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) — For many, getting in and out of stores quickly is important, that combined with fewer choices at The Wiregrass Commons Mall is driving shoppers away.
Leroy Horne, the General Manager at Shoe Carnival says "Based off of, especially the last quarter we've definitely seen an increase in traffic. I don't know if it’s all been because of the mall, for certain we still have customers coming in from the Panama City area as well, but just based on the past 3-4 months because of the increase there's a very big chance that some of its because of the shutdown at the mall".
Three shutdowns already this year - Charlotte Russe closed in January, Kitchen Collection closes next month and Crazy 8 at the end of April.
So what would bring people back?
Kathy White says that "If Target were in the mall I would still go there".
Some shoppers told WTVY off camera, the stores they want aren't in the mall, but they'd go there if they were.
However managers are wary of mall locations.
Leroy says "We've placed stores in the mall before. We actually have a few in our Florida area and they do OK because of the tenure of time they've been there, but without that we definitely wouldn't want to do a new store because we've seen the results of it".
