Mayor warns higher than normal levels of E.Coli in Florala

FLORALA, Ala. (WSFA) -- A lake in Florala has higher than normal levels of E.Coli bacteria, according to the mayor.

Mayor Terry Holley said an independent test in the swimming areas of Lake Jackson found the bacteria at higher than normal levels, and Florala has partnered with Florala High School to continue monitoring the situation.

Anyone who has open sores, fresh tattoos, a compromised immune system, or is undergoing chemotherapy treatment is advised to not enter the water. However, Holley said the lake is not closed.

Holley said the situation is likely due to the heat and the fact the lake’s water comes from many sources. Aside from the swimming areas, the rest of the lake is at normal levels.
