The hunt for a man who stole a utility trailer from a large Dothan church is over.

After searching for several hours, Dothan police captured 44-year old Jason Dewayne Creel, a former inmate.

Creel was hiding naked under a bed in a home on Riveredge Parkway. He was led from the home in a hazardous materials suit.

Creel is also believed to have killed a dog in the neighborhood where police found him.

Officers earlier recovered a truck and the trailer. The trailer belongs to Covenant United Methodist Church. The truck may have also been stolen.

Police first encountered Creel early Tuesday and searched the Woodlands Subdivision area. They captured him shortly before 5:00 pm.

Court records show Creel has several arrests, including those for illegal drugs.

He began serving a 15-year sentence in 2010. His release date is not immediately known.

Prosecutors classify Creel as a habitual offender.

Police do not believe others are involved in the crime spree.

(This story updated to remove report dog was shot and replaced with killed. The method of death has not been released.)
