WASHINGTON COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) -- A man accused of murder in Washington County pleaded no contest Friday.

Days before the one year anniversary of Deena Zimmerman's death, Sean Dowis was sentenced to 45 years in prison for stabbing and killing his girlfriend.

On May 29, 2018, the Washington County Sheriff's Office received a missing person report about Zimmerman. Investigators say Dowis and his brother, Greg, buried Zimmerman in a shallow grave in a remote area of Washington County. They say Dowis admitted to "snapping" during an argument with Zimmerman.
