TROY, Ala. (WTVY) -- Officers from the Troy Police Department responded to a motor vehicle crash at 4:41pm Thursday afternoon on U.S. 231 at the intersection of Pike County Road 1149.
When officers arrived on scene they found two vehicles involved and a total of 5 people suffering from injuries received in the crash. Troy Fire Department and Haynes Ambulance Service responded to treat the injured persons.
One of the vehicles, a silver 2008 Chevrolet Trailblazer was overturned on the shoulder of the roadway. The other vehicle involved was a red 2002 Jeep Wrangler. All injured persons were transported from the scene due to their injuries.
One person, with life threatening injuries, was transported from the scene by Haynes Life Flight to a Dothan Hospital. The other four were transported by ground ambulance to hospitals in Montgomery and Troy. Three of these persons were critically injured and the other was not life threatening.
Darien Tyreke Ballard, 21, of Troy succumbed Friday to injuries he received in the crash. Ballard was a passenger in the Chevrolet Trailblazer.
This accident remains under investigation by the Troy Police Department with assistance from ALEA, the Pike County Coroner’s Office and the Pike County District Attorney’s Office.
