Make-A-Wish sends girl born with Gastroschisis to Disney World
A little girl in Enterprise will be taking a trip to the most magical place on Earth.
Make-A-Wish revealed it to her Monday afternoon at one of her favorite restaurants, McDonald’s.
Like most five-year-olds, Sufiera loves Disney movies - especially Cars and Wreck-It-Ralph, but unlike most, she's had to watch a lot of the movies from a hospital bed instead of a theater.
"She was born with gastroschisis," said Sufiera’s grandmother, Jennie (the family’s last names were not released).
Gastroschisis is a birth defect, where the baby is born with their intestines on the outside.
She had an intestinal transplant in 2016, but had issues with her body rejecting it.
Her kidneys failed in January of 2019.
After spending eight months at a hospital in Omaha, she's finally back home in Enterprise.
"Our biggest challenge right now used to be the fluids and meds and keeping her going, but now, it's online school,” said Jennie.
Now that Sufiera is doing better, she'll have the chance to see some of her favorite Disney characters up close and personal.
Make-A-Wish is sending her and her grandparents to Disney World.
For Sufiera's wish granters Bud and Marilyn, getting to the reveal was a year in the making.
"Everybody asks, 'What's your favorite wish?' My favorite wish is the one we're working on right now,” said Make-A-Wish Wish Granter Bud Sliger. “It's not really about where they go or what they get, it's about making that kid feel special for that period of time."
The McDonald’s on the Boll Weevil Circle hosted the reveal and gave the family and friends free food.
