DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) — In less than 48-hours, professional tennis players from all around the world will come to Dothan for the 18th Annual Hardees Pro Classic.
"Dothan, Alabama is being talked about all over the world, as a result of this tournament,” said Kim Meeker, director of the tournament.
Meeker has been preparing for the women's tennis tournament for several months. Friday, he spent the day doing some finishing touches "down the line" before the players come to town.
Around 80 top ranked players from roughly 20 countries will come to Dothan. Many of these players have competed in Wimbledon and the US Open.
"Our draw is that strong, one of our players even beat Serena Williams last year,” Meeker adds.
This particular tournament is a "wildcard" challenge for the French Open.
A lot of big names in a small city.
"We're very fortunate that we get to have the tournament live streamed, which will broadcast all over the world,” said Angelia Turner, tournament coordinator. “That puts Dothan on the map to show people our facility here and show people what the Westgate Tennis Center is all about."
The tournament is going on all week and it's sure to serve up some unforgettable matches!
If you're interested in watching a close match, tickets range between 2-5 dollars.
