Local power companies still learning one year after Hurricane Michael

DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) -- One year after Hurricane Michael swept through the Wiregrass area, power crews are still assessing information from the hurricane.

The power companies had a lot of work to do after Michael.

More than 44,000 customers between Dothan Utilities and Wiregrass Electric were left without power.

Most of the customers had power restored within 10 days of the storm, but even after one year, Michael has both companies still adding to their outage management plan.

"We're in good shape from hurricane Michael and the effects from it,” said Dothan Utilities Director Billy Mayes. “We still are working on our overall plan, but we're working on solutions to give us better information."

Mayes also told me it is important for customers to update their contact information with Dothan Utilities for their outage management system.

To update your information with Dothan Utilities call the collection number at (334) 615-4100.
