Local church taking donations for hurricane victims

By  |

DOTHAN, Al. (WTVY) One church is doing their part to help those impacted by Hurricane Harvey

Bethel Baptist is taking donations that will be sent to those who need it.

They’re asking for things like water and cleaning supplies because a lot of people don’t need anything else right now.

You can drop off items at the church on East Cottonwood Road now through Friday, from 1-6pm.

John Thomas, the director of missions with the Columbia Baptist Association says,
"One thing we have heard from our church and from the community is ‘how can we help?’ A lot of them can't go, but this is a chance for them to give to an organization that is going to make sure it is used appropriately."

They say if anything happens with Hurricane Irma, and the items are needed more in Florida, they will make preparations to send them there instead

They’re asking for:
Bottled water cases
Disposable diapers
Cleaning supplies
Gift cards to Walmart, Lowes, home depot, etc

The supplies will be delivered to the Baptist Disaster Relief Team effort in Texas where needed.

For questions contact Bethel Baptist Church 334-792-5908 or the Columbia Baptist Association 334-794-6281.

Other organizations in the community are also collecting donations for Hurricane Harvey relief. Find information on these efforts here
