Local Band Director wins January's Teacher of the Month

HEADLAND, Ala. (WTVY) Congratulations to Headland High School Band Director John P Taylor. Taylor is WTVY's and All In Credit Union's January “Teacher of the Month.”

He received numerous nominations for this award, in honor of a milestone made by the band. Over Christmas he took his students to Annapolis, Maryland for the Military Bowl. As a result of his guidance, his students participated in the pre-game, halftime shows, and concert competition. Headland High School was the only Alabama based band at the event.

“By us going to Annapolis it gave me the opportunity to bring in my old band director friends,” explained Taylor. “The students had a lot of variety of people stand before them, to help prepare them. He went on to say, purpose is important, and that gave them a purpose. I am very excited that we got the opportunity to go and they performed really well.”

Taylor has spent over two decades teaching music to students. If you want to nominate your teacher for this award, go to the contest section of our website.
