Level Plains might be ready to hire new police chief

LEVEL PLAINS, Ala. (WTVY) -- Last October the Level Plains police chief was arrested for disorderly conduct which left the position vacant.

After months of searching the city might be ready to hire another one.

A hiring committee is still looking for qualified candidates to fill the position.

Level Plains Mayor Bruce Grantham says they're looking to fill the position as soon as possible.

"Maybe a couple of months ago, whenever we first had an opening for chief and they've been working on it. We should have an answer soon."

The mayor isn't sure when the committee will have a decision but hopes to learn more at Thursday's city council meeting.
