Man arrested after law enforcement standoff in Barbour County

BARBOUR COUNTY, Ala. (WTVY) -- Tense moments Thursday after a man refused to leave a Barbour County home after being released from jail earlier in the day.

The call of a verbal altercation between family members came in at 10:20 am Thursday.

The call came from Laura and Dennis Walker's home after officials say their nephew, Jeffrey Danner pointed a gun at his uncle.

The Walkers then left the home and officials arrived on the scene. Danner refused to come out of the home and SWAT teams were called to the scene. Neighbors were then evacuated. Danner came out of the house on his own but did fire one shot in the house before leaving.

Babour County Sheriff Tyrone Smith says, "At the end of the day this is a situation where it really could've gotten rough and could've got bad and were proud of the resolution of it. No one got hurt and everyone was able to go home safely. So if Mr. Danner can go and get the help that he needs that'll be the best for everyone."

Jeffrey Danner was just released from the Dothan Jail Thursday morning on charges of disorderly conduct.

Danner was sent to Southeast Health after officials say he was having hallucinations in the home.

2:40 p.m. - UPDATE 3 - Law enforcement tells WTVY that SWAT entered the home at approximately 2:25 p.m. One male was take into custody and was being transported to the Barbour County Jail

The call came in at approximately 10:15 a.m. this morning. He was the only one in the home at the time of the arrest.

Law enforcement from numerous agencies including Barbour, Houston, Henry and Dale counties were all on the scene. Haynes Life Flight were also on standby for assistance.

2:33 p.m. - UPDATE 2 - WTVY's Erin Wilson reports that the man in question has been taken into custody.

2:25 p.m. - UPDATE - there is only one person involved in the standoff at this time.

Law enforcement is in a standoff with a man in Barbour County.

Multiple agencies are on the scene after a man claiming to have a gun stood off law enforcement.

Responding agencies reportedly include Barbour County Sheriff's Office, Dale County Sheriff's Office, and Houston County Sheriff's Office.

According to neighbors, the standoff has closed Hwy 51 north of Ariton on the way to Clio.

According to someone living nearby the hostage taker may be holding his grandparents. Officials say it is unconfirmed if there is anyone in the house with the man.
