DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) -- Nearly 30 kids learned about pigeons Wednesday morning at Landmark Park.
It's all part of their summer program where they feature different educational festivities Wednesdays through Fridays through August.
Wednesday, a group of kids saw several flight pigeons that compete in bi-annual races.
The group of birds fly hundreds of miles on a racing day using their internal GPS.
"They know where the sun is supposed to be. So the sun helps them, their eyesight, and even their sense of smell. It's all of these things together," said Pigeon Club member John Helm.
John released his homing pigeons from their cage.
They then flew back to his house in Headland.
