State Secretary John Merrill ‘not in a rush to make a decision’ on U.S. Senate run
Alabama Secretary of State John Merrill spoke to Houston County Republicans at the Wiregrass Rehabilitation Center.
Merrill gave members an insight on what's happening inside the Office of the Secretary of State as well as answering any questions on election security.
There's been a lot of talk, nationally, about Merrill running for the U.S. Senate and challenging Sen. Doug Jones in 2020. However, Merrill says he's in no rush to make a decision.
He says "We want to make sure that we're evaluating each and every topic that's introduced to us as far as a candidacy is concerned. We want to make sure the support is there, everything's in order before we make a public decision."
Merrill says the decision on whether he chooses to run will be announced around Memorial Day.
