Huntsville Utilities customers' rates going up

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (AP) -- Huntsville Utilities customers can expect to pay a little more for electric and gas beginning next month.
WAAY-TV reports electric rates are increasing an average of 1.5 percent through the Tennessee Valley Authority beginning Oct. 1, which Huntsville Utilities said will mean about $1.50 more for residential customers. The increase is part of TVA's strategic pricing plan.
Residential customers can also expect to see increased natural gas charges starting in October. Availability rates increase from $5.50 to $7, and usage rates will go up from $8.01 per thousand cubic feet to $8.96.
Availability rates will also increase in 2018 and 2019. The company says usage fees won't increase during that time.
The gas rate increases were approved by the Huntsville Utilities Natural Gas and Waterworks Board in August
