With tax season comes tax scams

DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) -- With tax season, comes tax scams.

Some of the most common scams are people impersonating the IRS saying you owe money.

One thing to remember is the IRS will never contact you over the phone, email, or text message.

It's also important to know if you qualify for free tax assistance and who provides it.

One place that's helping throughout the Wiregrass is Wiregrass 2-1-1.

David Duke, the Executive Director of Wiregrass 2-1-1 says "The people that are preparing the taxes are being trained by the IRS, they're legit, they're good folks, we are not going to be putting information like that in our database unless we know and make sure these programs are above board that are helping people with their income taxes".
